• December 18, 2019 17:10 • The grain harvest in Russia in 2019 increased by 6.5% compared to last year - up to 120.6 million tons, according to a Rosstat operational report.

• "In 2019, it is estimated that 120.6 million tons of grain in weight after refinement were harvested in farms of all categories (agricultural organizations, farmers, population)," the document says. The gross harvest of grain and leguminous crops in 2018 amounted to 113.255 million tons, thus, the harvest this year grew by 6.5%.

• Based on the December assessment of the statistical agency, the current year’s grain harvest is the third largest in the post-Soviet history of Russia. A record crop of 135.539 million tons - the country's farmers harvested in 2017. Gross harvest in 2016 amounted to 120.677 million tons, which is slightly higher than the current year’s indicator. However, in February-March, the Federal State Statistics Service clarifies the data on the grain crop of last year - and in recent years, estimates have increased.

• The head of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev in early December told reporters that the ministry expects a grain harvest in Russia in 2019 at the level of 121 million tons. Then the minister pointed out that the grain harvest this year will be the second result in the post-Soviet history of Russia.

• In 2019, Russia also collected a record crop of sunflower seeds - 15.1 million tons, which is 18.3% more than last year.

• The previous record belonged to 2018 - then the harvest of sunflower amounted to 12.756 million tons.

• According to the statistics agency, 50.6 million tons of sugar beets were accumulated this year, which is 20.4% higher than in 2018. Potato harvesting in farms of all categories decreased by 0.7% compared to the previous year - up to 22.2 million tons, vegetables - increased by 2.6%, up to 14 million tons.
